During the winter of 1952, British authorities entered the home of mathematician, cryptanalyst and war hero Alan Turing (Benedict Cumberbatch) to investigate a reported burglary. They instead ended up arresting Turing himself on charges of “gross indecency” – an accusation that would lead to his devastating conviction for the criminal offense of homosexuality. Little did officials know, they were actually incriminating the pioneer of modern-day computing. Famously leading a motley group of scholars, linguists, chess champions and intelligence officers, he was credited with cracking the so-called unbreakable codes of Germany's World War II Enigma machine. An intense and haunting portrayal of a brilliant, complicated man, THE IMITATION GAME is the story of a genius who under nail-biting pressure helped to shorten the war and, in turn, save thousands of lives.

THE IMITATION GAME is rated PG-13 and has a running time of 114 minutes. Blu-Ray™ and DVD special features include The Making of THE IMITATION GAME, deleted scenes and special commentary.  The Blu-Ray™ will also include the exclusive “Q&A Highlights” special feature.

Batman: The Second Season: Part One DVD Set Review.

For nearly two decades, one of the most requested TV series to be released on DVD from the 1960s was the classic Batman, starring Adam West and Burt Ward as the caped crusaders Batman and Robin. The only item available legally on DVD and eventually Blu-Ray Disc was the 1966 feature film, Batman: The Movie, which released theatrically between the first and second seasons. Then in 2014 Warner Brothers Home Entertainment finally released the complete series on Blu-Ray Disc and DVD as well as Digital Copies in standard and high definition on iTunes and UltraViolet.

The first season also was released on DVD separately, but many may have not noticed it at first because of the premium complete series sets that were offered first on Blu-Ray and DVD. With the holiday season proving to be a tight season financially for many consumers, those who could not purchase the deluxe sets containing the entire series were also in some cases unable to purchase the first season and or subsequently decided to wait and see how Warner Brothers would release the future seasons on DVD.

Well I can tell you all now that if you have been holding off on the season sets on DVD, there is no reason to hold off any longer. The recently released Batman: The Second Season: Part 1 contains the first 30 episodes of the second season spread across four DVDs and they are beautifully packaged within a Four-Disc Single Sized Plastic Keep Case within a cardboard slip. I find the plastic packaging for both Blu-Ray Discs and DVDs to be preferable over the cardboard deluxe packaging some multi disc sets come within so if you are like me then you might choose to purchase the series this way. All thirty episodes look fantastic in their standard definition digitally remastered (1.33:1) television broadcast aspect ratio and even hold up just fine when up converted via HDMI to 1080p. An English Monaural Soundtrack is provided along with optional English, French and Spanish Language subtitles encoded across all four discs as options.

There is also a beautiful full color episode guide insert within the DVD set Keep Case, which is refreshing because not all TV releases these days include episode guides and information. The effect Batman had during it's original run cannot be understated and it's legacy lives on too. Adam West and Burt Ward are arguably the best Batman and Robin team ever and serve as a litmus test since for all who have taken on the role regardless of the approach.

Celebrities wanted to be on Batman to be a special guest villain or simply make a cameo appearance while the dynamic duo do their famous climb up a building wall. Guest Villains/Stars for these first 30 episodes of season two include Art Carney as The Archer, Julie Newmar as Catwoman, Van Johnson as Minstrel, Victor Buono as King Tut, Shelley Winters as Ma Parker, Walter Slezak as Clock King, Vincent Price as Egg Head, Liberace as Chandell, Burgess Meredith as The Penguin, Otto Preminger as Mr. Freeze, Cesar Romero as The Joker, Carolyn Jones as Marsha, Queen of Diamonds, and Cliff Robertson as Shame.

An outstanding addition to any fan's Batman collection, Batman : The Second Season: Part One is available now at retailers on and offline courtesy of Warner Brothers Home Entertainment.

Channing Tatum to present the Stephen F. Kolzak Award to Emmerich

Los Angeles, Tuesday, February 17, 2015 – GLAAD, the nation's lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender (LGBT) media advocacy organization, today announced it will honor writer, producer, director, and philanthropist Roland Emmerich at the 26th Annual GLAAD Media Awards in Los Angeles at the Beverly Hilton on March 21, 2015.

Channing Tatum will present the Stephen F. Kolzak Award to Emmerich. Tatum starred in the Emmerich film White House Down and will next be seen starring in Magic Mike XXL, The Hateful Eight and Hail, Cesar.

The 26th Annual GLAAD Media Awards are presented by Delta Air Lines, Hilton, Ketel One Vodka, and Wells Fargo; and Official Presenting Partners Amazon and Bud Light. The GLAAD Media Awards recognize and honor media for their fair, accurate and inclusive representations of the LGBT community and the issues that affect their lives. The GLAAD Media Awards also fund GLAAD's work to amplify stories from the LGBT community and issues that build support for equality.

Emmerich will receive GLAAD's Stephen F. Kolzak Award, which is presented to an openly LGBT media professional who has made a significant difference in promoting equality. The award is named after a successful casting director, who devoted the last part of his life to raising awareness in the entertainment industry about the discrimination faced by LGBT and HIV-positive people. Previous Stephen F. Kolzak honorees include Laverne Cox, Wanda Sykes, Rufus Wainwright, Melissa Etheridge, Bill Condon, Todd Haynes, Alan Ball, Ellen DeGeneres, and Sir Ian McKellen.

Roland Emmerich is one of the world's most talented and sought-after directors. His films include the blockbusters 2012Day After Tomorrow, StargateIndependence DayThe Patriot, and White House Down. Emmerich has recently completed filming Stonewall, a drama about the 1969 Stonewall Riots in New York City, a major turning point in the struggle for LGBT equality.

In addition to his work in film and television, Emmerich has significantly contributed to several non-profit organizations, including but not limited to, Outfest's Legacy Project, dedicated to preserving LGBT film history; The Los Angeles LGBT Center; Freedom to Marry; and the Cambodian Children's Fund.

“As one of Hollywood’s most sought-after film directors, Roland Emmerich has entertained audiences across the globe. His generosity has touched the lives of countless LGBT people, bringing shelter to homeless youth and preserving culture-changing stories that help close the gap to full acceptance,” said GLAAD President & CEO Sarah Kate Ellis. “Now, with the upcoming release of ‘Stonewall,’ millions of moviegoers all across the world will see the harms of anti-LGBT discrimination and learn about the historic riots that forever changed equality in America.”

Additional special guests and honorees for the Los Angeles will be announced.

In January, GLAAD announced 104 nominees in 21 English-language categories, and 40 Spanish-language nominees in 10 categories. Nominees for the 26th Annual GLAAD Media Awards can be found here:

Happy Valentines Day Everyone!

Off The Cuff Review - Mezco Toyz: Cinema Of Fear: Freddy Kruger Stylized...

The Latest From Guy Ritchie.

These Final Hours: Theatrical Release Review

These Final Hours is an Australian post apocalyptic end of the world film that was released in 2013 and after acclaim at Cannes, the film is finally being given an official USA theatrical release on March 6, 2015. An asteroid capable of destroying all life on the planet has crashed in the North Atlantic and created a blast wave that will cover the entire planet and incinerate all life as know it in the process.

In Perth, the citizens have been notified that they have 12 hours of life left to live. James, a troubled twenty something man just wants to numb the pain by taking as much drugs and booze as he can and spending his final hours with his girlfriend. However as society begins to fall apart around him he saves a young girl named Rose from being raped. With no one else to take her to her family, James keeps her in tow and together they realize how they want to spend their moments.

Directed by Zak Hilditch and filmed on location in Perth, These Final Hours covers familiar ground covered in other end of the world thrillers, but unlike some movies which tend to focus too much on a few characters without giving any sense of the greater picture at hand, Hilditch manages to pull off both with clever editing, a good use of radio voice over and an excellent cast of Australian actors. The film has a very natural feel to it too. Characters lament about how painful being incinerated alive will be, which while morbid it is still something I have never heard any characters address in a film like this and besides the fear of death, the possibility of it being a painful one is never once mentioned in most end of the world movies, but I think it is something we all have in our minds.

Even if it were for just a second, would we feel anything?" Like getting a shot at the doctor's office where despite having received vaccinations and having blood drawn from us many times, once in a while we feel that pinch from the injection and it hurts. The film also does not try and candy coat the bleakness of the situation and yet it doesn't dwell on it. The characters we meet are well developed even if they only get a few minutes of screen-time. Like most films in this sub genre, the story is about redemption, but unlike many others it does not feel preachy and despite the bleak situation, there is a certain human comfort reached by the viewer as though one was watching another's journey in the face of death and because the characters are very human and are largely neither good or bad, the film accepts the human condition as the individual presents his or herself and allows the viewer to do the same and have empathy for them.

I liked this movie a lot more than I expected. Would I want to watch it over and over again, no. However I would not mind sharing the experience of seeing a screening of These Final Hours with one who has not seen it yet. Then be thankful and hope nothing like that ever comes to pass.

Once again These Final Hours will open in the USA on March 6, 2015. Additional information can be found at

(Feb. 5, 2015) – Get ready to bring home (Little Orphan) ANNIE, the beloved classic that has delighted audiences for generations, when Sony Pictures Home Entertainment releases the modern day telling of the rags-to-riches story on Digital HD March 10, and on Blu-ray Combo Pack and DVD March 17.Featuring a mix of new and timeless songs infused with contemporary sensibilities, this updated version brings a hip new vibe to the heartwarming tale.  ANNIE stars Academy Award® winner Jamie Foxx (Best Actor, Ray, 2004) as New York City billionaire Will Stacks, who takes in a foster youngster to boost his image while campaigning for mayor. Academy Award® nominee Quvenzhané Wallis (Best Actress, Beasts of the Southern Wild, 2012) stars in the title role as a spunky, upbeat foster kid originally left by her parents with the promise they’d be back for her some day. The “hard knock life” she’s experienced, living with mean foster mom Miss Hannigan, played by Cameron Diaz (Shrek), has also made her into a savvy, street-smart New York City kid, whose life changes dramatically after meeting Will Stacks. A family film that both old and new fans can enjoy, ANNIE also stars Rose Byrne (This Is Where I Leave You) as Stack’s assistant Grace, and Bobby Cannavale (Chef) as Stack’s campaign manager, Guy.

The ANNIE Blu-ray Combo Pack and DVD both come with all-new featurettes, including exciting behind-the-scenes looks at the making of the film and a director’s commentary, featuring Will Gluck on the production of the updated story and challenging fans to find nods to the original 1982 film. Also included is the “You’re Never Fully Dressed Without a Smile” music video, spending a day with the foster girls in New York.

Audiences can relive the magic of ANNIEagain and again with the Blu-ray Disc’s exclusive sing-alongs, including five of the film’s iconic songs; “Hard Knock Life,” “Tomorrow,” “I Think I’m Gonna Like It Here,” “Opportunity” and “I Don’t Need Anything But You.” Plus, by using the audio button on their remote, fans can switch between sing-along and karaoke mode on all of the sing-along tracks.  Also exclusively available on Blu-ray are adorable bloopers, a photo gallery, trivia track, and a deleted song, “Something Was Missing” featuring Jamie Foxx. In addition, the Blu-ray includes four all-new, making-of featurettes.  The first, “It’s a Hard Knock Camp,” takes audiences behind the scenes to see the process of the foster kids auditioning for their roles, callbacks, dance training and more. The second, “A Day on Set With Quvenzhané,” highlights some of the interesting aspects of what it takes to be Annie, as Quvenzhané takes viewers through a day in the life on Annie. Audiences can go behind the scenes in the “Moonquake Lake – On Set!” featurette, where “Pop Culture Canada” host “Alexander St. James” interviews the “directors of the film” leading into a world premiere trailer featuring the fictional film stars, Andrea Alvin (Mila Kunis) and Simon Goodspeed (Ashton Kutcher). Lastly, fans can enjoy the film’s music in many languages from around the globe in the “Tomorrow Around The World” featurette.

Annie is a spunky upbeat foster kid who’s also tough enough to make her way on the streets of New York. Everything’s about to change when a hard-nosed tycoon takes her in and believes he’s her guardian angel, but Annie’s sun-will-come-out-tomorrow outlook on life just might mean it’s the other way around.
